Panoramax Austria
Open street-level imagery under a free licence.
What is Panoramax?
Panoramax is a free collection of street-level photographs — similar to Google Street View, but open. The project was started in 2022 by the French national mapping agency IGN and by OpenStreetMap France.
The images are published under an open licence. Anyone may view, download and reuse them — in particular to improve OpenStreetMap: house numbers, shops, signposts, surfaces. Things aerial imagery cannot show, because it cannot see vertical surfaces.
No central provider
Panoramax has no owner who holds everything. Each instance runs independently, and the instances are federated with one another. Whoever contributes images decides where they are kept and who runs them.
That is exactly what this domain is for: so that Austrian instances have a shared, local address.
Instances in Austria
Running your own instance? A subdomain is available.
Anyone running a Panoramax instance that covers Austrian territory can
have a subdomain under panoramax.at — for example
wien.panoramax.at. An email is enough.
